In the single school year I have been in Art III, I have learned more than I imagined I would. I have learned to stretch a canvas, choose the right exposure for documentation, and have committed to memory enough art history to win trivia night. Though I have learned much in technicality, the most important thing I learned through this course is that I must have trust in myself and my process. This is where I have seen the greatest growth as well, as my lack of confidence will show in my work. Throughout the school year, I have become increasingly confident in my skills and my pieces, as well as the process behind them.
In relation to growth, improvement is also a necessary part of process. Although I have improved greatly in technique and confidence this year, I still have a great deal to improve. When in Art IV and Art V, and during our summer assignments, I will focus on improving my discipline in my process. By that I mean I will do my absolute best to avoid procrastination, which has been my biggest trouble this year by far.
Moving forward, in Art IV I will use what I have learned this year to help concentrate my future work. This year I have become aware of my preferences, such as my distaste for clay (sculpture busts especially) and my love for acrylic painting. In the coming school year, I am excited to dive deeper into acrylic, as well as explore media like collage and needle point, which I have enjoyed in the past. In relation to acrylic, my intended area of focus, I have learned useful skills in color theory and composition which will aid me in my future works.
